MUSIC LOVERS ENJOY SPRINGTIME RAMBLE IN MEDIA

Bill Kirchen, and local headliners Leroy Hawkes and Lonnie Shields highlighted a varied mix of entertainers Saturday night at the first annual MediAmericana Roots Ramble.   The event, was a prelude to the upcoming 3rd Annual State Street Blues Stroll, on June 14 in Media.

“We had hoped people would come out to the event, but as it was the first time, we were not sure.  The response from music lovers in the Philadelphia area went beyond all of our expectations.”  Said event Chair, Paul Patchell, Media.   “The type of crowd also surprised us.” He added.  “There were people of all generations, from the baby boomer crown to generation X.

The Roots Ramble featured at least eighteen performers in twelve different locations.  Each musician represent and different genre or style of American originated music.  Musical genres included Blue Grass, Country, Rock-A-Billy, Blues, Rock and Roll, R&B-Soul and Folk music.

Featured performers and venues for the event were,  Bill Kirchen (Rock and Roll Guitar), Bootlegger Bucks; Silk City (Bluegrass) Plumstead; Leroy Hawkes (R&B Soul), Iron Hill; Tom Gillam and Tractor Pull (Country Rock), New Orleans Café; Lonnie Shields (Blues),Town House;  The Roberts (Local Rock and Roll), Towne House;  Mike Davis and the Bullets (Rock-A-Billy), West End Saloon; The VooDudes (Zydaco), Joclyns; and The Double Clutchin Weasels (Country Rock N’ Roll) John’s Grill.

Rounding out the evening were performers at “All Ages Stages  They featured   Ryck Kaiser (Appalachian), Koffee Korner; Joe KinSolving (Irish American) Official Roots Rambler, Jennie Avila (Folk) 20-20 Fusion Café;  Screaming Diesels (Local Rock and Roll), Coffee Club; Vic Sadot (Cajun), La Belle Epoque and a Song Writers Showcase at On a Roll.

“The Blues Stroll has been so successful that Media Restaurants wanted to try adding another event in the early Spring,  noted Patchall, of Media.  “We were looking at something a little different, that would not coincide with other regional music events and came up with the idea for the Americana Roots Ramble.  The recipe included a little Country,  a dash of  Rock and Roll a bit of Blue Grass with a zap of Zydaco and Folk.  Add them all together at Media establishments, cook it up with a little electric edge and you get the MediAmericana Roots Ramble. We thought it might work and it did,  Patchall concluded.

Tickets for the event sold out by 9:00 and event organizers estimated a final showing in town of at least 2,000 music revelers.  With MediAmericana behind them, organizers are now planning for this year’s 3rd Annual State Street Blues Stroll on June 14.   For more information and photos about this year’s Roots Ramble and State Street Blues Stroll go to the Blues’ Stroll website at www.statestreetblues.com
